Therapy Connecting Us To WholenessLike many traditional forms of therapy, Focalizing uses thoughtful discussion and analysis to identify the source or sources of a client's distress.

Once a path is charted, attention is brought to the natural and innate intelligence that resides within us all, and by doing so, both awakens and relies upon it to guide a gentle yet powerful healing.

Focalizing works with the understanding that emotional and often even physical pain can be the consequence of more subtle unconscious and energetic imbalances. By first bringing attention to the physical body, deeper emotional and energetic pathways can be accessed and healed, without seeking to re-live the initial trauma.

Once otherwise unconscious emotional pathways are opened, Focalizing addresses them through the language in which they best communicate: imagery and symbols imbued with tangible sensations.

The 9-Pointed-Star of Focalizing

Focalizing can best be summarized in terms of its "9-Pointed-Star” that captures the individual elements of the Focalizing process, yet expresses the interconnectedness of each stage of the journey.

While Focalizing is an organic process that dissolves linearity, one can follow the “process” in this progressive order: Intention, Suspension, Sensing, Imaging, Resourcing, Engaging Opposite Energies, Shifts of Perception and Experiencing, Soulful Integration, Physical Manifestation.

Practice

A Focalizing session often begins in a manner similar to a traditional talk therapy session. Clients may discuss their immediate circumstances, or provides an update on their state of well-being. Dr. Picucci may ask clarifying questions, or focus attention on a particular area. Depending on the circumstances, Dr. Picucci may ask to engage in more visceral Focalizing techniques. Most of these involve what Dr. Picucci has colloquially coined a “Body Drop”.

The Body Drop

A Body Drop Bringing Energy & Presence to the Bodyis a presencing technique similar in appearance to traditional relaxation exercises. It may be thought of as a portal through which the deeper healing elements of Focalizing are then brought to the fore.

The client may close the eyes, and following the verbal instructions of Dr. Picucci, focus attention on various points of the physical body and surrounding environment. There are no judgments or criticisms in the process, and as such, there are no wrong ways to experience it. The client remains fully conscious and alert while guided to a place of connectivity with the innate intelligence of their physical and energetic body.

Dr. Picucci may ask the client to take notice of anything they are feeling or experiencing - subtly shifting awareness into the state of 'curious observer'. It is from this state that one or more mental visualization and energetic exercises may be discussed. Some of the techniques and imagery used come from recent discoveries in psychological therapeutic techniques. Others are based upon far older healing modalities spanning both Eastern and Western cultural traditions.
